Flash Flood Havoc

For the first time ever I was locked out of the LRT Station. Date? Aug 25 2006 Time? 2030 Where? Masjid Jamek Putra Station. Why? Due to system failure at Sri Rampai Station and Flash Flood in the heart of the KL city. How? The entrance into the Station was closed. They only allow passengers to leave the station.

And the detail? The roads were flooded earlier due to the river spill from the Klang river nearby. I was walking from my office at that time and the nearer I got to the station, to more muddy the road becomes. Had wanted to take pictures from my phone but I don't have any data cables so I won't be able to upload any here. That's why I didn't take any.

The heavy downpour also caused massive jam everywhere. Cars were practically kissing each other's butt. And since I was told that the LRT system will take approximately 2 hours to be restored, I was looking for alternatives to go home and the only choice are the buses. So I decided to walk towards Central Market to catch a bus and while I was there, I took a short walk around Central Market as well since it's been such a long time I last visited that place. My my, nothing's much has changed but there are definately more new cafes and restaurants since I last remembered.

As I was leaving the place, I then saw LRT trains moving towards the Pasar Seni Station. It wasn't slow moving as reported, so I guess the system's been restored. With the sole of my shoe cover well covered with mud, I walked to the station to catch the train instead. I didn't want to wait for the bus. God knows for how much longer the waiting will take. And finally I got home save and sound.

  • yupz. but it's a good thing I was not in the streets when it rains. I was in the streets after the rain.... the afterlife of rain. the beginning of havoc and caos to the city council I guess.

  • the weather dont change so much in just 10yrs. I would rather look into the development in KL. When more places is developed, more drainage network is built, but the capacity of the Klang river is still the same. (Or I should say lesser, becos may be become shallow due to excessive sand.)
