Farewell treats

We usually would treat the leaving staff lunch before they leave but in this case, they're treating 2 people at the same time. A senior, Patrick from my team also left about the same time as me. One is a dim sum lunch at Marco Polo Restaurant, one is Western food at Thai club opp. Beach Club and a third is KFC. So 3 treats by 3 different group of people.... hehehe... so nice of them all.
Dim Sum treat was shared by my boss (Joyce) and my VP (Nancy, also my ex-GM). Western food last Friday was by 3 colleagues of other teams (one is from the Accounts, another is the secretary of a senior manager, and also the QA Manager), and finally KFC yesterday by the wacky tea-lady of ours, though a bit paiseh for the third one. Luckily she only treated me alone.

Also had a Peking roast duck as another treat by Patrick though he meant to treat us for his last day in Formis. He left 2 days before me. The newly opened restaurant is opposite Radius Int'l Hotel and we had a serving of one roast duck made into 3 course dish - the roasted skin eaten with popiah skin, the flesh fried again in celery and the bones boiled into a soap soup.

Me in return bought those present for the duck lunch Starbucks. Will maybe treat the rest next time. I still need to go back to colleague collect my cheques.

So long Formis

Geez, unlike the last time when I left my first company then, I was eager to leave, excited to move to the new place and anxiety filled the emotions. But this time, it's a little different. I was a bit reluctant, yet, eager. Mostly so because I know I will miss my team and colleagues.

It'll be a whole new road to walk though not entirely a different path. I'll still be doing programming, still be using .NET as the language, and the job function is quite identical as what I've been doing. Only difference, I'll work with different people, at a different environment.

In my last few moments in the company, I was writing a farewell note to all those whom I've worked with or knew well, the ones which I'm closer to in the company. It was intended to be short but it ended up like this:

The time has past,
For so very fast,
For I wish you well,
And bid you farewell.

My time here is short,
But full of wonderful thoughts,
Memories I forever cherish,
So it will not perish.

Meeting you guys is fate,

Don't know how it ended that way. It just did. Took me about an hour to piece up to my satisfaction, but I'm happy with the result. Least, it's better than the usual long winded and lengthy farewell note I've always read in the past.

Looks like it's competition season again

Got a surprise message from my Instructor today. Looks like the KL Wushu team selection competition will be next month and he's asking if I want to compete. Still a little reluctant though, especially when I've stayed away from training for so long. It's gonna be another tough battle to regain my form.

It's been 4 years since I last competed in the state selections, and apart of being selected into the U21 team once in 2002, I was never selected into the senior team. Then, college final year came and work commitment followed.

I've thought of retiring from competitions. Was even on semi-retirement already. Then, last year's competition in China and Singapore came along unexpectedly. I competed again. Who would want miss a chance to compete at a world stage... it's like every athletes dream, even if you're not in the national team. After Singapore, I stopped training completely. I thought I can now gladly retire.

But somehow... and sometimes, I wish I could have another try at the National Championship. Yet... commitment is again an issue. Part of me is also reluctant to go through the tough training again. Especially when the priority in life is different now.

Anyhow, I will compete again this year for one last time. I do not want to, when in future thinking back, regret that I did not even try.

Oh... and I finally gotten my Singapore certificates... 6 months after the competition. These shows how efficient they are... sigh

Access card

Damn... the moment I got back to my office, the management has activated the access card system. Today we have to start using them. So now, everytime I go in and out of my office, I'm tracked.

*sob sob ... I can't be late for work anymore. But not that I care anymore. I have nothing at stake... hahaha

Back in office

Hurray... finally I've moved back to my office today, after almost 3 months away at MIDF. It's not that it'll much difference now as I won't be staying here for long.

Also had a farewell dim sum lunch treated by my boss at Marco Polo Restaurant at Wisma Lim Foo Yong, Jalan Raja Chulan. It's like killing 3 birds with one stone this time as 2 staff are leaving and another just celebrated his birthday recently. That guy actually took 2 days off on Monday and Tuesday, causing users and clients calling me instead when he could not be reached, even though I've not been involved in the system anymore. I think he purposely turn his phone off to avoid receiving calls "-_-

Anyway, the initial plan was to go to Planet Hollywood but changed the moment we knew one of our teammate, who's a vegeterian is on MC. Least we don't have to worry about him not able to eat at Marco Polo. In Planet Hollywood, he could still taste the salad.

Anyhow... yippee!!!... ladies and gents... I'm back

My long lost triplet?

Hahaha... this would be the most interesting topic I've ever posted.

Last night, I was at my friend's place for his 24th birthday party. A group of his friends, all from the Faranatics (a fans' club of Farah, one of the Malaysian Idol 2 finalist), when saw me thought I was Daniel Lee's (Malaysian Idol 2 winner) cousin. At first glance, they thought I was him. So could he be mine and my brother's long lost triplet? Hahaha... XD

But here's the more interesting part. My friend also told me that the father resembles my father as well. So could he actually be my father's twin brother's reincarnation? Yes, it's a known fact. My father WAS a twin himself. I used the word 'WAS' because his elder twin brother apparently unfortunately passed away at the age of 3 due to some unknown illness. That was some 65 years ago. If so, then that guy 'would be' my cousin already.

I have yet to meet that guy. My friend promised to let us meet a long time ago but never did. But it does seem a little scary to have such coincidence.

By the way, being a twin and coming from a family of twins (I have other twin relatives), it was often joked that I would one day have twins as well, since the twin genes are already in my blood. So any girls out there thinking of getting twins? I won't mind selling my sperm.... muahahaha... only joking okay, don't take this too seriously.

But who knows, they could be end up being a pair of a girl and a boy (but that has yet to happen in my family). In that, you don't have to go through the labour pain twice.

Coconut Cream Pie

LOL... was surfing the net and saw a very interesting advert title that really caught my attention. So that's how I ended looking at this recipe page.

The recipe was copied from the Tropical Traditions. The pie looks pretty delicious and wonder if my mom or sister would try doing it for me. But I'm sure Miche would love to try it out. Anyway, here's the recipe.

Crust:
1 cup coconut flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon honey
pinch of Himalayan salt
¼ cup butter-melted
2 tablespoons Virgin Coconut Oil-melted
½ cup shredded coconut
1 tablespoon water
1 egg white-beaten

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl with a wooden spoon, mix together the eggs, coconut flour, shredded coconut, honey and salt. Once well blended, add the butter, coconut oil, and water. Mix dough together with your hands until everything has blended together. Pat dough into a round pie pan. Press the dough firmly into the pan. When you are done forming the crust, take the egg white and beat it with a fork until frothy. With a pastry brush, brush the crust with the egg white and bake at 350 for 14 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack.

Filling:
½ cup whole sugar
¼ cup cornstarch
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup shredded coconut
1 tablespoon butter
2½ cups heavy cream
3 tablespoons Coconut Cream Concentrate

Combine sugar, cornstarch, and shredded coconut together in a pot and slowly pour the heavy cream into the pot over medium heat. Add vanilla, butter and coconut cream concentrate while stirring with a wire whisk constantly. Bring mixture to a simmer and then reduce heat to medium low. Continue stirring until mixture becomes very thick and then turn the heat down to low. Cool the mixture in the pot with a cover for about 5 minutes. Pour mixture into cooled pie crust and place wax paper on the top of the pie to prevent skin formation on the filling. Place pie in a pan of cool water until the filling is completely cool. Top pie with whipped cream and garnish with toasted coconut flakes (optional.) Refrigerate until ready to serve and enjoy!!

Lately, I've been spending quite a lot of time on YouTube. That was after I found out about "Girls Out Loud" from a colleague. "Girls Out Loud", is a Singapore reality show about the lifes in Singapore posted by a YouTube user online. They cover very interesting topics and sometimes can be really funny and pathetic.

So far, I've watched the clips until Episode 8 only. Each episode is separated into 3 parts. Wonder how many more episodes to come?

Boring Day

My 2 colleagues and I have been based in our client site for the past 2 months. But today, I was the only one in the office. The 2 are on leave. One has been gone since yesterday while the other is only off for the day.

Things got a little bored as I have completed my work and waiting for additional task (if there's any) to be assigned. Our job are almost complete here. Should be moving back to my office in the next couple of days.

So the whole afternoon, I was doing anything but work. There's no need to test much of my current work, because it's just merely to display data/results. No need for calculations, no need for data manipulation or transformation and no need for data processing :P

Also, I met up with Eng Hong this afternoon for lunch. He was around to complete his medical checkup before he joins his new company next week. He'll be working as Helpdesk in Huawei Techonologies near KLCC. Good luck to him on the job.

Hehehe... I can even go off a bit earlier today. Me getting naughtier... that's so not me

Birthday treat

Only that it was my treat for someone else. For a belated birthday outing, I treated a friend to a lunch for her birthday at a cafe/restaurant "Delicious by MS READ" at One Utama new wing.

I also bought her another present. And in return, my good friend here, baked me this for my birthday. Kind of a joint celebration for us...
And she also bought me this manga as a present...
I've watched the anime version of this story. She knows that I don't read manga, comics nor any books. I think she's trying to make me read... and be a book worm like her... hahaha XD.

Our lunch and presents were long overdue because we just couldn't find the time to meet up. I'm busy with work while she's busy with all her bfs ;o) ... and gfs as well

Anyway, this woman was an hour late. We promised to meet at 11am. I left my house a little early fearing that there might be a bad jam heading towards the area but it was really smooth. I reached the place around 10.30am, so that means I actually waited for an hour and a half. Because of this my parking ticket exceeded into another time block, making me pay RM3.00 while she only paid RM1.00.... sigh

At the restaurant, the meal I ordered wasn't really to my liking. I can't remember what it's called but it's like spaghetti noodle blended with lots of greens. I find it a little salty and too much cheese. It looked quite small the portion but was very filling due to the cheese. But the drink was nice. It was watermelon added with lychee. I brought my camera along but forgotten to take the photo of my food. Need to remember that next time.

We then sat down at a juice bar drinking some mix fruit juices while looking around because I was feeling thirsty. After that, we just walked around. She, being a woman, naturally would be looking at cloths and shoes.

Me... I just went around, trying out some spectacles caused I thought of looking for one for casual wear. Found a few really nice one and she liked it to. But spending RM 1xx for something that I'll hardly wear is something I'm still quite reluctant to do. Besides, I feel really uncomfortable wearing them. Not used to it.

After a while, we left. At home, I tasted the cakes. One word says it all. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!! Thanks dear... for your time and effort. Hopefully I'll get to eat more of them... hahaha!!!! XD

It was cold

Yesterday, PJ and KL felt somewhat deserted.... well, literally. Today was the same and I guess for tomorrow as well. The LRT, for example, was exceptionally empty... a wonderful change from the normally sardin-canned like train whenever I was in during the peak hours, both to and from work. And because of the absense of body heat, the train itself felt so darn cold... a feeling hardly ever felt during the normal peak hours when the train was packed. I would probably sweat a little in the train... but not yesterday.

I guess everyone else was taking an extra day off, following the normal weekend break, coupled with Labour Day today and Wesak Day holiday replacement tomorrow.
